‘Vegetable seduction’ in the Whole Foods Market’s business model is a concept that is deeply rooted in visual merchandising and the use of optical cues to gain the attention of customers. The idea is to present the products in the most attractive patterns and arrangements, and hence make a first impression that is strong enough to spark interest in the consumer and keep them coming back (Bhalla, Swati, and Anuraag 141). According to the chain’s Chief Executive Officer, John Mackay, as seen on the video, people first buy food with their eyes and are visually tactile (NewsHour). This means that the vegetables must first appeal to the eye in order to create interest that warrants an individual to purchase the product. Mackay also notes that the beauty of the food determines how individuals interpret the possible food experience (NewsHour).
