The gut microbes are microorganisms that live in the digestive tracts of human beings and other animals. Its primary function includes that of fermenting fibers into broken down fatty acids that are easily digestible. They also help in absorption of vitamin B and K into the body once we take in food. Gut microbes also function in the competition of reactions like that of the bile acids and xenobiotic.
There is an excellent connection to how the gut microbes affect our sleep and mood swings (Gallagher, 2017). Typically, people are supposed to rest for about seven to eight hours on a daily basis, but irregular patterns mainly due to stress cause us to lack sleep. It can be drawn from the relationship between the gut and the nervous system which is interconnected with the brain. It is referred to as the gut-brain axis.
Lack of sleep has been seen to cause a significant number of mental diseases which include depression. A case study was done in which they compared the feces of people with depression and ordinary people they found that people with depression had low gut microbes. Chronic fatigue syndrome is a condition that was associated with gut microbial due to higher levels of lousy colostrum bacteria.
