The European Union
The European Union is a representation of concerted effort aimed at promoting peace among nations in Europe after the Second World War. When the war ended, the majority of the western European countries embarked on a mission of promoting closer economic, political and social relations with the intention of achieving lasting peace, economic growth, and a secure military region. Today, the EU represents a unified trade and monetary body composed of 28 member countries. Membership to the Union eliminates any form of border control among constituents which in essence allows free flow of people and goods save for standard routine checks for any suspicious activity. Students both from the Union or from other countries enjoy the opportunity of traveling around the region to learn some things.
As a student of a short program in the Union, traveling around different countries to experience would be easy provided that I hold a visa. On the same breath, the first significant contribution of the bloc to me is the ability to travel, live and work anywhere within the Union. People from other countries outside Europe, with proper documentation, have an enshrined right to live, work, and move anywhere within the bloc.
