However, Stephen Forbes in his paper, “The Lake as a Microcosm” delivered in 1887 clearly shows the kind of ecology that exists in such environments. He argues that in such an ecosystem where there exists both the natural resources and human beings, then there is likely to be conflicts that are related to insecurity by the animals living in the water as well as some effects such as floods.
Forbes’ reading plays a significant role at the heart of every scientist who is interested in understanding the ecological relationships of lakes even in the current times. The reading was important because it brought to light the kind of battles that exist mostly in the lake ecosystems that mainly affect the surrounding animals, especially human beings. “Forbes’s foundational paper “The Lake as a Microcosm” demonstrates the linkage between the science of ecology and environmental politics” (16). His paper is key to the modern researchers and scientists in understanding the manner in which breeding of the water animals happens and even the different reservoirs of life that result from the sediments that are left behind by the overflowing streams.
