Should Death Penalty be Abolished?
The debate regarding the abolition of capital punishment through execution continues to rise in the criminal justice department for decades. “While some criminologists argue that the death penalty is not a suitable deterrent for homicide, their arguments continue to spark overwhelming support from the civilians,” (Kelso and Green 2). From my perspective, I believe that the death penalty should be removed from the court system because it violates the fundamental human right to life.
Some people believe that capital punishments are irreversible and may lead to the death of an innocent person. Conceptually, I think the court systems are vulnerable to erroneous judgments that may subject one to wrongful conviction. For instance, one illustration can be drawn from Cameron Todd Willingham’s case who was wrongfully convicted for arson that led to the death of three daughters. Contrarily, reports later proved that the defendant was not the actual killer of his three daughters despite the court ruling to execute him (Amnesty International). Thus, the death penalty requires abolition in the court system as it culminates families’ agony instead of offering solution for murder.
