The human skin is prone to various skin conditions and disorders. Skin disorder denotes an illness that affects the human skin. Skin disorders affect people of all ages, but the most common types of skin disorders usually affect the elderly and individuals with a light skin tone. There are numerous skin disorders, and their classification is based on the symptoms and severity of the infection. Causes of skin disorders can either be genetic or situational cases.
The most common types of skin disorders are skin cancer, scabies, mycosis, acne, psoriasis, and rosacea. These conditions can affect the epidermis, dermis, and hypodermis. Scabies is a curable contagious skin infestation that affects the epidermis and dermis layers and is caused by a parasitic mite known as Sarcoptes scabiei (Hay et al. 1530). Skin cancer is a treatable condition characterized by uncontrolled growth of skin cells. Skin cancer affects the three layers of the skin depending on the type. Acne is a treatable and chronic condition characterized by skin inflammation that affects both the epidermis and the dermis. Psoriasis is an incurable and persistent skin condition that leads to the rapid growth of skin cells in all layers. Mycosis is a curable fungal infection that leads to the buildup of scales and dry patches on the epidermis.
