Proclamation of 1763 Document Summary
The British Board of Trade issued the Proclamation of 1763 with an aim of accomplishing several objectives. One of the objectives in question includes establishing a government for the newly established territories from the war between the French and the Indians. Besides, the Proclamation of 1763 focused on peace development between the Indians and the colonist and to promote a peaceful coexistence. Moreover, the Proclamation of 1763 mainly aimed at ensuring the colonist remained confined to the coast to ensure that the taxation process and trade became easier. The Proclamation of 1763 also focused on establishing a boundary between colonies and the government. The boundary was referred to as the proclamation line. The main aim of having the boundary in place was to ensure the promotion of economic independence among the states to avoid conflict development in the future.
Historical Importance
The Proclamation of 1763 is of historical importance as it aided in promoting peace between the Indians and the British settlers. By physically separating the two warring states, the document was able to put an end to private deals that further resulted in conflict development with a bloody outcome.
