Metacognition is a term that is used in reference to the innate capacity for reflection of personal thoughts and behaviors. Precisely, it is a reference to the processes involved in planning, monitoring and the assessing of one’s performance and understanding (Schneider, 116). As such, it is inclusive of the critical cognition of personal thinking and learning as well as evaluating critically oneself as a learner and a thinker.
