My Childhood Life as a Muslim
I was born and grew up in a Muslim household, and I must admit that growing up as such actually was pretty awesome. I come from a middle-class Islam family, and both of my parents are nurses. I was brought up in a setting that is equally passionate about religion and health. There were no taboos and from a very tender age, I could freely and comfortably discuss almost every matter with parents. I was taught Islam as my religion and also taught to accept the religions of other people. I took the Quran lessons, and swimming was my main hobby. Our home library was equipped with books on Islamic theology as well as other literature books.
I had five prayer sessions each day including Tahajjud, and I fasted during the Ramadan season with the rest of my family members. Ramadan makes one of my fondest memories when growing up. It was and still is an epic and happy time. I always wore the headscarf, and though my parents did not like me wearing it, they even allowed me to decide on myself on whether to wear it.
I must say that Islam was and still is a source of inner calm and strength. It gave me a purpose to live and more so from the Quran lessons that I attended. I learned a lot. Visiting the Friday congregations in the Mosque at home was fun and definitely helped me a bunch.
