Verbatim and Its Implications in Law
Language is a way of communication as well as a method of defense. It can be used to project the same statement and give it different meanings. It can also be used to make an implication. If one is not careful, especially in law, language and how something is said can be used against them. From the video, the term photocopier was the bone of contention in the case. Because the prosecution failed to prove that their case, which mostly pertained the misuse of a photocopier, they were unable to make a case for themselves. In the case of Cheryl V. Miller v. North Stamford Congregational Church, the issue was whether her case can be based on constitutional law or it will be entangled in religious matter. It was decided that the matter was based on tort and contract law, therefore, denying the defendants claim for a summarized judgment. The ruling was fair as the Congressional Church Conference was indeed part of Mrs. Cheryl’s employment contract.
