According to American government under George w. Bush, the Iraq invasion in 2003 by Americans was based on the following reasons: Firstly, that Iraq allegedly was developing weapons of mass destruction (WMD) and if not controlled and stopped it could threaten human existence (Tuathail 862). Secondly, the American government purported that there was a connection between Saddam Hussein government and terrorist organizations especially Al-Qaeda (Kull et al. 572). Thus, Bush administration cast the Iraq war as a matter of national security and part of the broader war on terrorism (Bojang 5). Finally, was the issue of democracy in the Middle East; the United States supports democratically elected governments in the world, and the regime of Baathist was seen as undemocratic. Thus, change of system in Iraq became an inevitable priority for the US. The Saddam administration threated America’s security and hence the reason why America and its allies attacked the Baathist outfit and remove Saddam Hussein administration (Danju et al. 682).
The United Nations (UN) investigated the claims that Iraq had weapons of mass destruction but the outcome of the investigation found the assertions to be untrue. U.S intelligence was wrong since the survey showed that Iraq did not have weapons of mass destruction.
