Internship in the Senate Office in DC
An internship is an opportunity that is offered by employers to students or potential employees to give them an exposure to the working environment (CRS 8). Internships are the best tools that can help improve our chances as job applicants and enhance our potential as future employees. By becoming an intern, I will be making a good investment in my career and my future. The internship will be of great help to me because it will give me a taste of the real world experience (CRS 7). I will also be able to interact with great people whom will become my mentors and references. By the time I will be finishing my internship, I will have gained a lot of skills, and my career will have a good foundation.
I expect to learn a lot at the Senate office in DC. During my internship, I hope to receive training from the Congressional Research Service so that I may understand the various activities that take place in that office. I also hope that I will be trained on how to use the Legislative Information System and attend professional development workshops (CRS 8). These workshops will help me develop leadership skills which will add to my knowledge base and also help me to gain confidence in my abilities. They will also help me to learn how to network and establish mentors who will help me open doors to advice on the next steps to take on my career path.
