The National Association for the Advancement of Colored People (NAACP), is an American organization for interracial people created with the purpose of the abolishing segregation, unlawful killing, slavery, and bias in settlement, education, employment, voting, and transportation (Kellogg 139). The interest group’s work targets national issues affecting people of color in America utilizing administrative activities to safeguard civil rights lawmaking, community schooling plans to rally backing, and straight activities to attain equality.
Termed as the longest standing civil rights association group in America, the NAACP arose from the Niagara Movement, led by William E. B. DuBois (Locke 205). The NAACP was formulated in the summer of 1908 and founded on May 30, 1909, by W.E.B. Du Bois, Ida Bell Wells-Barnett, and Mary White Ovington drawing significant inspiration from the 1908 Springfield, Illinois Race Riot to become the initial African American-led organization (Locke 207). The group experienced slow growth during the first decade of its creation but picked up the pace from 1918 to 1920 onwards.
The NAACP has a predominantly African American membership. The group continually holds a multicultural management practice devoted to establishing a united public (Locke 105).
