The Columbia University Protest 1968 The Columbia University protest of the year 1968 has been documented as one of the many protests that were done by students throughout the globe in the year 1968. The protest erupted in the spring of 1968 after many students realized the linkage between the university and other elements of the institutions supporting the United States’ ongoing war with Vietnam. The students were also concerned about the segregated gymnasium that was being constructed in the nearby at the park known as Morningside park. This protest led to various students occupying university buildings. Eventually, the protest became violent leading to the removal of the protesters by the police department in New York.
The origin of this protest started in early March the year 1967 when a student representing democratic society activist discovered a document in the law library that gave detailed information about the involvement of the Columbian institution with defence analysis institution. This was weapon research that was associated with the United States defence force.
