Cognition is the higher functioning of the brain cell such as reasoning and memory. Cognitive alterations are when the brain is at its minimal operation experienced especially as one age and in cases where the brain is affected. Cognitive alterations can bring different types of outcomes. Most factors affected by alteration of cognitive processes include the thinking, intelligence, memory, attention, aptitudes, and perception.
Types of outcomes of cognitive alterations
Cognitive alterations result to distracted attention, and there is an accompaniment of division of attention at different variations. In perception, cognitive alterations can lead to hallucinations, lack of sensory awareness and illusions (Karmiloff-Smith, 2018). The memory, on the other hand, is compromised differently though conditions such as Alzheimer disease, hyper amnesia and traumatic automatism among many other disease disorders.
Cognitive alterations in thinking are when an individual is having confused thoughts, thought disorder, punning and delusions. Intelligence cognitive alterations are when an individual experience some mental retardation, autism and a childhood disorder referee to as the Asperger’s syndrome.
