Abstract
The play “The Importance of Being Earnest” mocks a number of popular beliefs towards all of its themes. This essay aims at illustrating the way that Wilde uses in his writing to be able to create humor effectively. He uses controversial characters to exaggerate and add humor topics that may be considered important, sometimes even mocking them. One of the most controversial characters is Lady Bracknell, who makes the most unbelievable assertions. While questioning Jack, she says that she does not approve of anything that tampers with natural ignorance. Further, she claims that the education system was not effective otherwise it would have caused trouble for the ruling class. These views may have been used to mock education; they contradict popular belief that education and knowledge make the society better and improve the lives of people.
