It mainly occurs when species no longer have the ability to survive in the changing environment or compete with superior species. Due to the ecological relationship established between species, the extinction of a specific species can be quite disastrous to the ecology (The National Academies Press, 2010). This paper will analyse the reason why humans should be concerned with the high rate of extinction and the reason why preservation of the remaining specimen is essential.
In the recent past, scientists have recorded an increase in the rate of extinction. They estimate that by 2100 nearly half of the animals and plants will be extinct. The cause of extinction varies from human causes like pollution to genetic and demographic factors. This has made extinction a critical topic for zoologists CITATION Ben141 l 1033 (Bensel & Turk, 2014). Their increased interest is for the stability of the ecosystem, genetic resources and ethics.
