The play, the ‘death of salesmen’ highlights intrinsic themes whose application pursues the society today. The main character, Willy Loman, and his sons are the main protagonist in bringing forth the theme of the play. It asserts the inadequacy of self-confidence in a man which spurs a route for loss of fate in personal dreams in the contemporary society (Murphy, 1995). Willy had a dream of being a successful business man in conformity with his believe that being in America guaranteed him of an opportunity to realize wealth and satisfaction. Biff is an active member of the family and talented athlete where he is embraced by every student and the coach for showing expertise in the field. However, he is not well up in terms of academics where he did not reach his father’s perceived mark in high school. In the second perception, Happy is more hard working though not highly recognized by Willy.
Biff says to his father “you are just a normal guy and you will never succeed.” The statement is practical in the sense that Willy himself had no confidence in his goals where at some point he believed that the remaining part of his aspiration would be met by his son Biff. Evidence asserts that the statement is true since Willy opted to die and establish capital through insurance compensation which would allow his son start a business.
