Many people tend to buy the idea that terrorism can only be fought through military actions; however, this is not the case since other alternatives exist. Countries like the united states, Britain and Israel have been on the forefront in the fight against terrorism but most of the time resort to military intervention. Coercive military counterterrorism is only successful when together with the other soft methods. This paper is going to highlight the other counter-terrorism activities apart from military actions that can be used to fight the vice.
A friendly response may be used. It involves the use of reforms that address the complaints of the terrorist without dealing with them directly, for instance applying criminal justice (Frey, 2018). It can also include accommodating the demands of the terrorists. However, this has faced a challenge from the U.S policy that they do not negotiate with terrorist. An example of reform is that positive incentives can be offered to terrorists to give up on their missions. This is an effective way in motivating the potential terrorist not to engage in terrorism since they will find benefits that only exist to reformist. The former terrorists can be given a role in participating in peaceful interventions where they earn, thereby raising the opportunity costs.
