Abstract
The Roman Empire is unquestionably one of the greatest empires that have ever existed. The ancient roads, palaces, forts, and villas can all be attributed to their rule and development activities. The Romans also instilled in the previously pagan Britons religion, language, technology, planning skills, and identity. The Romans were a little selfless when they were putting up structures and networks because they used the latest designs of the time, technology, and materials. Furthermore, the Romans did not leave on a bad note but only because they had to protect their own land. The Hadrian’s Wall was one of the most prominent pieces of the Roman military. The Romans had a military legacy comprising superior armor, tactics, and weapons that had never been seen by the natives. The towns that came up also promoted the adoption of the Roman culture. It was expected that if you lived in the Roman towns, you take up their practices and even become a Roman citizen. Debates have ensued on the effect that the Roman Empire had on Britain. Various individuals have considered the rule of the roman over the Britons as dictatorial and against their sovereignty as a people while others think that it was necessary for the British in developing their political, economic and social structure. In this case, this paper seeks to analyze the effect of the Roman Empire to Britain; was it positive or negative?
