Resistance Training as a Musculoskeletal Disorders Treatment Intervention
Resistance Training as a Musculoskeletal Disorders Treatment Intervention
The diagnosis of a 94-year-old nursing home resident with osteoporosis
Explain to your patient in anatomical terms the diagnosis of Osteoarthritis, Rheumatoid Arthritis, Osteoporosis, or Low Back Pain.
In anatomical terms, Osteoporosis is a disease that affects the bones causing the bones to weaken as a result of a reduced bone density (Ciolac & Rodrigues-da-Silva, 2016). Bones are alive and in a continuous state of brake down and regeneration. Therefore, this process of bone break down, and regeneration nourishes the bones. In osteoporosis, however, this equilibrium is lost. The body gradually begins to lose its density and strength. The disease affects the backbone in many cases, and it might be accompanied by a bone fracture.
Explain to them why they should complete resistance type exercise based on what you learned from this article
The progression of osteoporosis can be reduced through physical resistance exercise. Research shows that physical exercise has a positive effect on bone density. The chances of having a fracture are slightly reduced if one engages in physical resistance exercise. People who exercise experience less bone loss and the goal of the treatment of this patient would be to reduce bone loss and pain if any (Ciolac & Rodrigues-da-Silva, 2016).
