The core of Buddhism is on the teachings of Buddha around the 4th to 6th BC in the eastern part of India. Buddhism taught on several issues that include the way to live a virtuous life, relation to others and how to transcend into the spiritual realms through meditation. Buddhism also emphasizes on progression towards enlightenment as a way to freedom from suffering. Enlightenment is an epitome of righteousness where a human being can control his deeds, thoughts, and existence (Cahn 294). The state of mind is critical to the achievement of enlightenment. Issues such as lust, ill will, sloth, worry and doubt prevent the mind from reaching the point of enlightenment (Cahn 293). In as such, the way towards freedom from desires and suffering entails being able to control the mind from evil desires and doing well to fellow human beings. According to Buddha, enlightenment entails having factors such as mindfulness, concentration, tranquility, and energy. These factors help the human mind to have an open mind and enjoy the freedom that the religion promises.
When compared with deontology ethical philosophy, Buddhism suggests that it is possible to achieve the categorical moral duty. The followers of Buddha have strict adherence to moral duty that compares to deontology because it does not consider the consequences of an action but the intentions.
