The New Jersey Assessment of Skill and Knowledge (NJASK) refers to a standardized test that the New Jersey Department of Education administered to all student in public schools from grades 3 to 8 usually anytime between March and May (New Jersey State Department of Education, 2018). The test in combination with others was used to assess New Jersey public school students’ performance. It was however replaced by the Partnership for Assessment of Readiness for College and Careers (PARCC) in 2015.
Results of the NJASK are presented for three performance areas; academic achievement, college and career readiness and student growth. The academic achievement performance area assesses the students’ content knowledge (New Jersey State Department of Education, 2018). The college and career readiness performance area assesses the level to which students exhibit behaviors that indicate future achievement in college or careers. The student growth performance area compares how students perform in the test between two consecutive years (New Jersey State Department of Education, 2018). For every performance area, results are presented for peer percentile, statewide percentile and percent of targets met.
