Based on the scientific management theory, what are some of the routines in health care that seems to be inefficient?
According to the scientific management theory which was coined by Friedrich Taylor, productivity at the workplace can be improved if all processes were to be organized in a scientific manner (Marquis & Huston, 2009). Each task should be organized scientifically, and the work of every employee should be evaluated as per its scientific accuracy. This would have a significant impact on productivity.
Based on this theory, there are some routines in health care that seem to be inefficient. For instance, there lacks proper communication between the manager and staff nurses. Nurses are the primary caregivers while management makes important decisions. Lack of communication between nurses and managers will mean that managers do not account for all the important aspects of decision making and this will lead to inefficiency since not all facts are incorporated in the decisions (Marquis & Huston, 2009). Also, when the healthcare organization does not have the necessary equipment for quality services, it is not easy to measure the nurses’ outcomes scientifically. This is because they lack the necessary support that they need to achieve high productivity. It is worth noting that for nurses to produce quality services, they will need to have all the necessary tools and support. It is only then that their services can be evaluated against scientific accuracy….
