I agree that the central theme is Aeneas, Odyssey and Illiad is conflict as expressed by the opening lines. Moreover, I agree that the entire introduction of both poems is the same as they capture the life of the three heroes in the quest to relieve their people from conflicts with other communities. Looking keenly and analyzing the opening lines of this poem, one can note an array of similarities and differences. One of the similarity is that The Aeneid, The Iliad, and The Odyssey are all epic poems illustrating the progress through war and rebuilding of the empire. However, the Aeneid poem slightly differs from other verses in that it is a continuation of the Iliad and the Odyssey. The story of the Aeneid poem depicts the aftermath of the Trojan War and proceeds from that point. Meanwhile, the opening of Virgil’s poetry can be described as short and funny. For example, “Arms and the man I sing” is an opening line for Virgil’s poem which tends to create different meanings depending on the interpretation of a person (Maro 1). Unlike that of Homer which is long and expresses anger. An example of an opening for Homer poem is, “Sing, goddess, the anger of Peleus son Achilles.” It is the use of this subtle to influence readers that makes Virgil’s poem far apart from the opening of Homer, hence making most of his readers to repeat by heart.
