Nuclear and biological weapons are the common forms of weaponry in modern warfare employed by both states and terrorist groups. Groups are prohibited from applying biological weapons, and the application of nuclear arsenal is highly scrutinized. Terrorist groups are, however, more likely to engage biological weapons than nuclear ones because they are readily available and require little expertise and hence the US government must limit their accessibility among the populations to reduce the chances of a bioterror attack.
Biological weapons refer to agents including bacteria, and viruses and are applicable in the form of weapons against humans (Garrett, 2017). It is easier to access biological weapons today as compared to chemical weapons since they are stocked in research and educational institutions. The biological pathogens are readily available in academic laboratories, pharmaceutical companies and factories producing vaccines (Garrett, 2017). Most of these facilities are owned or dominated by civilians and hence it is easy for terrorist groups to get the pathogens and utilize them through their sympathizers in the US and Europe (Ryan, 2016). The government of the US must prevent the proliferation of biological arms since they may increase terror once in the hands of terrorists.
